Lifetime Lab New Visitor Experience
Key Event Information
The new visitor experience at Lifetime Lab was officially opened by Ardmhéara Chorcaí Cllr. Chris O’ Leary on Thursday 23rd June. The new addition will offer a multi sensory 360 experience charting the development of the former Victorian waterworks in tandem with the development of Cork City and see Lifetime Lab join the impressive portfolio of Ireland Ancient East attractions.
Our renovations were made possible by the awarding of funding approved through Fáilte Ireland’s ‘New ideas in Ancient Spaces’ Capital Grants Scheme which along with Cork City Council funds has transformed the former engine and boiler rooms to enable storytelling around three and a half centuries of industrial development. Visitors will be encouraged to actively participate during guided tours to get under the skin of this famous Cork Landmark and discover links to other attractions in Cork and across Irelands Ancient East.
Speaking at the launch Jim O Donovan director of services said “in addition to the new exhibition in the Visitor Centre, today sees the opening up of the Victorian Engine room to the public for the very first time, these engines are very impressive and you really feel that you have stepped back in time. I am confident the new Visitor Experience will increase visitor numbers to Lifetime Lab and add cultural capital to the current range of tourist activities in Cork City”. He added “We all view a healthy tourist industry as a key economic driver for sustaining our City and welcome future collaborations with Fáilte Ireland in the delivery of high quality memorable experiences”.
Commenting at the occasion Jenny De Saulles Head of Ireland’s Ancient East with Fáilte Ireland said:“Fáilte Ireland were delighted to invest in Lifetime Lab as we believe that this attraction will significantly benefit tourism in Cork and is also a perfect fit for Ireland’s Ancient East – our latest initiative which is firmly rooted in our past and our stories”. Jenny further commented “By using a clever blend of technology and narration to bring its story to life, Lifetime Lab is exactly the kind of experience we envisaged when we launched our New Ideas in Ancient Spaces grant fund. The success of Ireland’s Ancient East will depend on the quality of visitor experiences on the ground and this means we must really be at our best in telling our local stories and having tourist-friendly attractions available. Lifetime Lab will certainly help us do that.”
Lifetime Lab @ Old Cork Waterworks is open seven days a week with self guided and guided tours available. Further information is available at 021-4941500 email@example.com
