Reuseton Environmental Schools Competition

Cork County Federation Muintir na Tire through funding received under the Local Environmental Partnership Fund in conjunction with Cork County Council and Cork City Council, launched a Primary School Environmental Competition entitled “REUSETON.” Muintir na Tire has been running an annual Schools Competition for the past 6 years.

Mr. Batt O’Keefe T.D. Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, formally launched the “Reuseton” Competition at the Lifetime Lab, Lee Road, Cork on 16th September 2005.

Pupils in 3rd to 6th Class in all Primary Schools in Cork City and Cork County were asked to either:

  • Carry out Scientific Investigation
  • Design and Creative a Model
  • Compose a Creative Story or
  • Draw a Cartoon Strip

(All based on the “Reuseton” School Pack)

The closing date for receipt of completed projects was the 7th April and the Muintir na Tire office was inundated with projects of all shapes and sizes!

The Prize-Giving Award Ceremony was held on May 4th in the Lifetime Lab, Lee Road, Cork. Lord Mayor Deirdre Clune and the County Mayor Michael Creed presented the winning schools with their cheques and Certificate of Achievement, non-winning schools received a prize pack and a Certificate of Participation.

Mayor Clune and Mayor Creed both complimented all the schools that participated in the “Reuseton” Competition for the exceptionally high quality of projects and all the pupil and teachers’ evident hard work and dedication.

The results for the “Reuseton” Environmental Competition were as follows:

    • Creative Writing Category

    1st Place: Cloghroe National School €400
    2nd Place: Curraghagalla National School €200
    3rd Place: St. Patrick’s Boys National School €100

    • Cartoon Strip Category

    1st Place: Scoil Mhuire Ballincollig €400
    2nd Place: St. John the Baptist National School €200
    3rd Place: Scoil Iosaef Naofa Cobh €100

    • Design & Creativity Category

    1st Place: Curraghagalla National School €400
    2nd Place: Scoil Mhuire Ballincollig €200
    3rd Place: St. Josephs National School €100

    • Scientific Investigation Category

    1st Place: Cloghroe National School €400
    2nd Place: St. Patrick’s Boys National School €200
    3rd Place: St. Mary’s School Rochestown €100
