This July Lifetime Lab will run a teacher summer course for primary school teachers who would like to build up their knowledge and confidence in the teaching of science –‘Exploring Primary Science at Lifetime Lab’.

Building on the success of Lifetime Lab’s science workshops for primary school classes this will be very much a practical summer course for teachers with examples of hands on activities using everyday items that can be used in the classroom to develop science skills and concepts and encourage discovery and investigation.

Topics during this years teacher summer course will include:

• Energy and Forces: Developing teachers’ knowledge and understanding in the areas of Light, Sound, Heat, Magnetism, Electricity and Forces.
• Materials: Modeling approaches to science investigations in the Materials strand.
• Living Things/Human Life: Developing teachers’ knowledge and understanding of the Lungs and the Digestive System and the importance of eating a balanced diet.
• Skills Development: Demonstrating science investigations that develop skills needed to work scientifically and practical activities to develop designing and making skills.
• Planning: Enabling teachers to plan their delivery of the science curriculum.

The teacher summer course will run from 9.30am to 2.30pm each day. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided for morning break and tea, coffee and sandwiches for lunch at 1pm.

The summer course is aimed at teachers of third to sixth classes.

• This teacher summer course is being run jointly by Lifetime Lab (www.lifetimelab.ie) and the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre, UCC (www.microbemagic.ie)
• The summer course is approved by the Department of Education for the purposes of the awarding EPV days to primary school teachers
• Lifetime Lab is an accredited Discover Primary Science Centre
• Free parking is available at Lifetime Lab
