Lifetime Lab, with our interactive exhibit area, our Steam Centre, playground and historical location at the Old City Waterworks, is a great venue for primary school education. Primary School groups can avail of a selection of hands on Discover Primary Science and Maths accredited workshops or enjoy a school tour of the Old Cork Waterworks @ Lifetime Lab.
Primary schools children participate in hands on science investigations, discovering topics such as Energy, Electricity and Magnetism, Forces, Materials , Rocks and Soils, the Senses and many more.Our primary science workshops focus on the skills, concept development and content objectives of the SESE Science Curriculum. Throughout the design of the hands on workshops we are mindful the primary science activities presented would be modeled on and represent feasible classroom practice.Further information see Primary Science Workshop
MathsWorks is a stimulating and funs introduction to primary maths, motivating pupils to engage primary maths through sight,sound, touch and movement. Each workshops includes a short presentation before children participate in a series of hands on maths based activities covering multiplication, symmetry, transformations and problem solving. School Tours of Lifetime Lab are facilitated by helpful and friendly staff. A 90 minute primary school tour includes discovery time at our interactive exhibition where children will be entertained and stimulated while learning about energy, water, waste and a whole range of other environmental issues. In the Steam Centre, they will also get an opportunity to appreciate the technology used in the past to supply water to Cork city. Children can let off their own brand of steam in the playground and garden before departure.
Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) have teamed up with Lifetime Lab to provide a series of interactive hands-on energy workshops for Cork primary schools pupils.There are two workshops on offer, Senior Energy Workshops are aimed at 3rd-6th class and "Guzzler" Energy Workshops which are suitable for 1st and 2nd class. Exploring Primary Science Teacher Summer Course
Lifetime Lab is please to offer a summer course for primary school teachers who would like to build knowledge and confidence in the teaching of primary science - "Exploring Primary Science" takes place in July with details announced in early May. Details of the 2015 summer cause are available here
